X Marks The SPOT takes place on May 1-2, 2026, as part of SPOT Festival in AarhusInstitut for (X) once again opens its gates and marks the spot, transforming its grounds into a living, breathing organism, built by community, for community. X Marks The SPOT is not a one-off event. It is the result of year-round collaboration, collective effort, and shared ownership. More than 600 members of Institut for (X) contribute to shaping the programme which grows bottom-up rather than top-down, and where form follows people. And it has become an integrated part of SPOT with a yearly return as a festival within the festival. This is a celebration of alternative culture, local initiative, and the belief that cities are shaped by those who inhabit them. We take back the city, mark X, and turn our gardens, rooftops, and hidden corners into an Island of Connections. Line up coming soon ! Program & Stages In 2026, Institut for (X) presents four distinct stages, developed through local and external collaborations: A-House Stage – An intimate indoor setting (capacity: 200)Garden Stage (next to Aarhus School of Architecture) – A larger outdoor space (capacity: 500)Palmehaven Stage – A cozy, speakeasy-style venue (an out-of-the-ordinary networking zone)Gadekæret – Sound System Stage – Located at the skatebowl The program runs across both festival days with multiple stages active simultaneously, spanning daytime gatherings and evening performances. Program and Atmosphere : The festival breathes with intention—a living landscape of surprise performances and shifting scales, where crowds feel cared for, creativity spills into unexpected corners, and music is savored slowly, away from queues and noise, as part of a carefully curated experience that values discovery, presence, and artistic risk. New Collaborations & Highlights Curators Collective (CuCo)Curators Collective is a year-long pilot project in Aarhus connecting young curators from Denmark through residencies, mentorship, and international exchange. The project runs from October 2025 to May 2026 and will culminate in a public showcase during SPOT Festival 2026. CuCo will present selected works and formats during X Marks The SPOT 2026. Solace Soundsystem x LYC x Island of Connections – Gadekæret Get DownRooted in sound system culture, this collaboration brings UK Garage selections and live MCs from London to Gadekæret. The program honours the history, energy, and forward momentum of the culture through sound, participation, and shared presence.The Gadekæret program will also feature a skate competition, celebrating local skate culture and movement in public space. Pop-Ups & Special Moments Classical Intermezzo returns in 2026 with intimate rooftop performances, artists playing acoustic music on a single instrument in unexpected settings. These concerts appear as pop-ups throughout the festival. Audiences can also expect spontaneous performances from the Institut for (X) community, surprise performances. Music here is not a service; it is a connector. Artists, audiences, and organisers meet on equal ground, shaping a festival that reflects how we want culture—and the music industry—to move forward. Practical Information Access:Entry requires either a SPOT Festival Wristband or a X Marks The SPOT Wristband (limited amount). The X Marks The SPOT bracelets are available via Billetto for 120 DKK (early bird options available), granting full access to the area at (x) both days.
