Most distinctive among the influences of this award-winning quintet, however, is tenor saxophonist/composer Lina Langendorf's deep relationship with ethio-jazz. She has spent much time jamming with musicians in Ethiopia and calls Addis Ababa her second home. ‘Amazing saxophone player – respect!’ says the godfather of that scene, Mulatu Astatke. Langendorf United takes its unique genre fusion to new heights on Undercover Beast, a pulsating new album from this all-star quintet with members from The Soundtrack of Our Lives and Fire! Orchestra, among others.
