Dome Dreaming Malmö

Dome Dreaming is the first international fulldome festival in the Nordics, where film leaves the screen and surrounds you. Over three evenings in Stockholm and one evening in Malmö, Wisdome becomes a space for expanded cinema, bringing together internationally acclaimed artists, emerging voices and a new generation of filmmakers. The programme moves between documentary, experimental film and expanded cinema, from fractal worlds and audiovisual landscapes to new works in collaboration with Östra Grevie Folkhögskola and invited artists. Dome Dreaming is both a public festival and a meeting place for filmmakers, artists, producers, and institutions working with dome film and expanded cinema. Expanded Cinema Dome Dreaming takes its point of departure in "expanded cinema," a movement that since the 1960s has explored film beyond the rectangular screen. From Stan VanDerBeek's Movie-Drome, a geodesic dome for projection, to Black Mountain College's Visions of the Present, and onward to contemporary fulldome productions, artists have sought ways to envelop audiences in image and sound. Wisdome Malmö Wisdome Malmö is the dome cinema at Malmö Museum, featuring a state-of-the-art 360-degree screen built for immersive visual experiences. In May 2025 it hosts the Malmö edition of Dome Dreaming, a non-profit fulldome film festival bringing together international artists at the intersection of cinema, music and immersive technology. Local Dystopias in the Global Utopia: Sergey Prokofjev (UKR, 10 min, 2024) A journey through speculative worlds shaped by conflict and imagination. From floating architectures to cities emerging in voids, the work reflects on the gap between global futures and local realities. Fallax: Huldufugl (IS/UK, 17 min, 2025) An escaped prisoner flees into the Icelandic countryside. After their friends mysteriously vanish, they are pulled into a space where time and nature move differently. Featuring motion-captured circus artists and realtime animation, Fallax reimagines tales of Icelandic folklore and the hidden people in a time of environmental change. Winner of the Immersive Award at Imagine Fantastic Film Festival. Dream: Ari Dykier (PL, 6 min, 2022) A short fulldome work by Ari Dykier, an evocative, dreamlike visual poem for the dome. Östra Grevie Folkhögskola A presentation of new fulldome works developed at Östra Grevie Folkhögskola, where students explore immersive storytelling and moving image for the dome format. Screening: Curated Programme II Parallel Universe: Suvi Parrilla (8 min, 2024) A layered audiovisual work exploring parallel realities and shifting perspectives through immersive environments. Parrilla's first dome short film, funded by the Arts Council of Finland and created at Helsinki XR Center. XYZ Craft: Lucas Gutierrez (ARG, 12 min, 2025) A fulldome work at the intersection of craft, computation and spatial narrative. XYZ Craft unfolds across the three axes of digital space, a layered exploration of how we construct and navigate virtual environments. Recombination: Julius Horsthuis (25 min) Fractal worlds unfolding at infinite scale, where mathematics becomes landscape and movement becomes narrative. Live AV: supermarket_sallad & s01system — Hadal Excursion The evening closes with Hadal Excursion, a 45-minute immersive audiovisual experience inviting audiences on a journey from otherworldly, alien landscapes to the dreamy, inky darkness at the very bottom of the sea, to dimensions of raw geometry and sonic overwhelm. Combining real-time procedural visuals with electroacoustic experimental music, Hadal Excursion is designed for full-dome theatres equipped with surround audio.
