Beskrivelse

Celebrate 20 years of Ying-Hsueh Chen's artistic journey in Denmark with Ancestral Modernism: EARTH & Tri(o)logy—where the primordial voice of stone, 1,200-year-old Buddhist chant, contemporary masterpieces, and free improvisation invite us on a profound sonic journey across time and continents Programme 19:00 Doors open 19:30 -20:15 — EARTH Tony Di Napoli (FR/IT) – stone lithophones Each stone has taken millions of years to form. Inspired by the ancient Vietnamese tradition of stone lithophones, French-Italian instrument maker and musician Tony Di Napoli has dedicated his life to revealing the hidden voice of stone. Through handcrafted instruments and free improvisation, he uncovers an astonishing sound world that is both primordial and strikingly contemporary. 20:30 -21:30 — Tri(o)logy Junko Ueda (JP) – shōmyō (Japanese Buddhist chant)Lê Quan Ninh (FR) – percussionYing-Hsueh Chen (TW/DK) – percussion Tri(o)logy brings together Japanese Buddhist chant, free improvisation, and contemporary masterpieces in a deeply immersive listening experience. For more than 1,200 years, shōmyō, the ritual chant of Japanese Buddhism, has been transmitted from generation to generation. The power of its simplicity continues to resonate with audiences today. Alongside this living tradition, the trio performs contemporary masterpieces inspired by Buddhism and Japanese aesthetics, including John Cage's Ryoanji and selections from Karlheinz Stockhausen's For Times to Come, composed following his visit to Japan for Expo '70'. Together, the three musicians move freely between ancient chant, contemporary composition, and improvisation, inviting listeners into a profound experience of sound, silence, and serenity —------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Twenty years ago, 22-year-old Ying-Hsueh Chen arrived in Denmark to pursue her dream of becoming a classical and contemporary percussionist. Her artistic journey gradually unfolded into a deep fascination with humanity's oldest ways of listening and making music. This became the foundation of Ancestral Modernism—a concert series that offers audiences profound and timeless experiences by revealing the universality of avant-garde and ancestral heritage.. The concert is kindly supported by Koda Kultur, København Kommune Musikudvalg, Art Music Denmark & Statens Kunstfond
