WSET Level 1 in Wine Course

This course is addressed to novice wine enthusiasts and to professionals starting their new career in wine or hospitality. You will learn to describe wine in an easy, but structured way through sight, smell and taste thanks to a systematic approach and you will be able to identify the main styles of wine. By the end of the course you will also understand the key principles of food and wine pairing, wine service and storage and be able to apply these principles to everyday life and work. No prior knowledge is required. The course will be delivered in English, so a good level of English is beneficial. After passing the final exam, students will receive a WSET Digital Certificate. Course Programme The key stages in grape growing and winemaking:Name the main parts of a grape and what they containName the key stages in the annual cycle of grape growing and know what happens during ripeningName and define different grape-growing climates and state how they can affect the characteristics of grapesList the requirements for and the products of alcoholic fermentationName and correctly order the key stages in the production of still white, red and rosé wines Types, characteristics and styles of wines from the principal grape varieties and other examples of wines:Define the types of wine and the characteristics that contribute to their stylesName the principal grape varieties and identify the characteristics and styles of their winesIdentify and relate examples of wines from principal grape varieties to the grape varieties, types, characteristics and styles of winesIdentify and relate other examples of wines to the types, characteristics and styles of winesHow to Store and Serve Wine:Identify and describe the basic principles for a correct wine service and storageIdentify the principal food and wine interactions and recognise the effect they typically have on a wineWSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT):Learn how to describe a wine through a tutored tasting of eight samples Note: you are not required to read the study material before attending the classes. The study material will be delivered the first day of the course.  About the exam In order to obtain the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines certificate, students must sit a final exam consisting of 30 multiple choice questions to be completed in 45 minutes. To pass, students must answer 70% of the questions correctly. The exam will take place in the last session of the course, the 6th of September at 1.30 pm.
